    • Enlist ambassadors: Use your top travelers to promote the benefits of booking hotels on your portal.
    • Ask travelers what they value: Gather insights on preferred lodging so you can build a hotel program that drives adoption.

    Amex GBT Preferred Extras are negotiated hotel rates that offer exclusive benefits including flexible cancellation, additional loyalty points, complimentary breakfasts, and more.

    Alongside your own negotiated rates, encourage travelers to utilize Amex GBT Preferred Extras. To negotiate discounted rates for hotels efficiently, you should: 

    • Extract your booking data by top destinations, travel spend, top hotels, and airline routes.
    • Identify cities where you could centralize bookings into one hotel to negotiate a special rate. A minimum volume is needed. If you have 100+ bookings and could centralize those in one location, you might have an opportunity to negotiate.
    • Survey your travelers on what amenities and services they’d prefer included in negotiated rates, to offer benefits as well as savings.
    • Once you’ve got a selection of hotels, you can contact them to negotiate. If you need support, contact your Amex GBT Consulting team.

    Create your hotel program


    Drive higher adoption by adding these hotel program benefits into your travel policy:


    • Use Amex GBT Consulting’s Hotel Monitor, a forecast of global hotel rates. It provides analysis of what drives pricing and steps for smarter sourcing to help you create an effective hotel program.  
    • Identify policy areas to prioritize using traveler insights, your data, and Hotel Monitor.
    • Create a group for your top travelers to give them more flexibility with travel policy exception rules. 
    • Define dynamic rate caps to adjust hotel nightly rate caps based on changing market prices and generate savings. 
    • Flag “out of policy” locations to monitor safety and hide destinations you don’t want travelers to visit.
    • Set up custom locations that give travelers an easy way to search for hotels near their office or other key locations.
    • Add your negotiated rates to maximize savings. 
    • Include additional tips on traveler benefits in your written policy, such as the ability to earn hotel loyalty points. 

    Measure your success


    Visit your reporting tool and review your hotel program’s performance:


    • Hotel attachment: Review the Hotel Lost Opportunity report in Insights, or work with your client general manager to determine hotel attachment metrics.
    • Supplier performance: Monitor hotel booking activity by city and chain to identify opportunities to negotiate more competitive rates.
    • Policy compliance: Monitor how travelers are booking to drive policy adjustments and enforcement.
